Free Concert: David Radzynski

  • Columbus Performing Arts Center, 549 Franklin Ave, Columbus
Violinist David Radzynski (concertmaster, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra) returns to his hometown Columbus. This performance is part of Sunday at Central's "Where Are They Now?" series, spotlighting rising star musicians with ties to Columbus. David grew up in Bexley. PROGRAM "Sonata No. 2" (1886) by Johannes Brahms "Personal Verses" (1999) by David’s father, Jan Radzynski (Professor of Composition, The Ohio State University) "Sonata for Violin and Piano" (1917) by Claude Debussy Pianist Mariko Kaneda (Faculty, Ohio Wesleyan University) will accompany David on both pieces. Jan Radzynski left his native Poland in 1969 and studied at Tel Aviv University and later at Yale University, before joining the Ohio State faculty in 1994. Comprised of three contrasting movements, Personal Verses features a Chopinesque mazurka, a spirited Israeli hora and a quotation from Zog Nisht Keyn Mol (Don’t Ever Say This Is the Last Road), a defiant song from the Vilnius Ghetto that became the anthem of Jewish partisans during World War II. Free parking is available at the Motorists Mutual Insurance Company lot across the street from the venue. Seating is available on a first-come first-served basis. Recommended for ages 9 and older. ABOUT DAVID RADZYNSKI David Radzynski, concertmaster of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, is one of the youngest violinists to lead a major world orchestra. He works extensively with the orchestra’s artistic director Zubin Mehta in Tel Aviv and around the world, and has led the orchestra on tours throughout Europe, China, Singapore, the United States and Mumbai. He has also performed as guest concertmaster with the Houston Symphony and Pittsburgh Symphony, and has been invited to guest-lead the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, he has played with the Israel Philharmonic, Warsaw Philharmonic and the Columbus Symphony. He performs recitals regularly throughout Israel, the United States and Europe. David holds a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, a Master’s degree from Yale University and an Artist Certificate from the International Center for Music at Park University.
